TITLE:          Supervisor of Instruction – Mathematics and Science (FLSA – Exempt)

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:          

  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate with preferred certification in secondary math or secondary science.
  • Master’s Degree, 12 hours of professional education, 9 hours of which shall include supervision, curriculum, instruction, and administration.
  • Certification as a Parish or City School Supervisor of Instruction or an Educational Leader.

                                          

REPORTS TO:    Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

 

SUPERVISES:    Math and Science Teachers

 

JOB GOAL:   Assist the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to coordinate and monitor an effective curriculum and program of instruction in all schools.

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.  Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to review periodically the parish philosophy, goals, and objectives and make recommendations to keep them updated and relevant.

 

2.  Assist Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to coordinate and monitor an effective curriculum and program of instruction in all schools.

 

3.  Provide leadership to school personnel to effect horizontal and vertical continuity throughout the parish.

 

4.  Collaborate with directors/supervisors and school administrators to assure continuity across all grade levels.

 

5.  Work cooperatively and collectively with supervisors, principals, department chairpersons and teachers to ensure that instructional programs and services are coordinated in the schools and are administered uniformly and equitably.

 

 

6.  Provide educational leadership in curriculum development and refinement, the implementation of content standards, and effective assessment and evaluation.

 

7.  Provide educational leadership in the implementation of instructional programs, including the evaluation of classroom instruction on a regular basis to encourage differentiated instruction and the use of variety strategies and materials consistent with

research on learning and child growth and development.

 

8.  Establish and promote high standards and expectations for students and staff for

academic performance and responsibility for behavior.

 

9.  Foster the integration of students into mainstream society while valuing diversity.

 

10.  Identify at the school level instructional approaches to address the academic needs of all students.

 

11.  Collect and use student achievement and progression data to improve and revise instructional programs.

 

12.  In collaboration with building principals, observe classroom instruction to

evaluate curriculum implementation (content, materials, pedagogy, pace and

standards), student performance, and program effectiveness and to provide information to principals for use in improving teacher performance.

 

13.  Assist in the administration of district and statewide assessments.

 

14.  Oversee curriculum data and student data management systems.

 

15.  Assist in the coordination of district remediation programs.

 

16.  Conduct statistical analyses of district and state assessment data with regards to:  the achievement of students, work samples, and other pertinent information affecting the design and evaluation of curriculum and instructional practices.

 

17.  Assist schools in the development, implementation, and evaluation of school improvement plans.

 

18.  Assist principals in problem solving with their school community.

 

19.  Prepare and submit appropriate documentation relative to the instructional program in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines.

 

20.  Assist in the preparation budgets and in the preparation of bids and/or quotations for the purchasing of instructional materials and/or equipment (including repair and maintenance thereof).   

 

21.  Ensure that appropriate instructional resources and reference materials are available to support Mathematics and Science instruction. 

 

22.  Plan for and assist appropriate supervisors with staff development activities for school personnel.

 

23.  Use analyses of district and statewide data to assist schools and the district in developing professional development activities correlated to identified areas of need.

 

24.  Remain current in the research that supports curriculum development,

instructional program design and delivery, and assessment.

 

25.  Disseminate information about current trends, research, and practices to school and parish personnel.

 

26.  Communicate the program of instruction to school personnel and community.

 

27.  Maintain effective liaison with the State Department of Education and other school districts in order to keep abreast of new developments in education.

 

28.  Adhere to Board policies and administrative rules and regulations.

 

29.  Recommend staffing needs and assist in the recruitment and selection of new

personnel.

 

30.  Assist building principals, when the need arises, to determine whether or not a probationary teacher will receive re-employment as evidenced by performance.

 

31.  Be in attendance at regular and special meetings of the St. Landry Parish School Board when items pertaining to the jurisdiction of this position appear on the published agenda or when requested by the Superintendent. 

 

32.  Represent the school and district at community, State and professional meetings.

 

33.  Perform all other duties as assigned or requested by Superintendent or designee.

 

  

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:       Twelve (12) Months

 

SALARY:   Index of 1.55 on the Teacher Salary Schedule

 

ACCOUNTABILITY:

 

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy on Evaluation of Personnel.

 

The Superintendent reserves the right to review, revise, update or change the job and any/all duties due to changes in job content, organizational structure, or state or federal laws.
