Job Goal:
To work cooperatively with school personnel to provide assistive technology (AT) services to students with disabilities and to foster cooperation between all school programs.
Qualifications (minimum education, licensure, skills, and/or experience):
- Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
- Louisiana certification in Special Education
- Five (5) years of successful certified teaching experience in Special Education
- Preferred Qualification: Specific skills related to proficient use of technology systems, computers and electronic communication devices and the ability to develop, implement, and monitor speech, language, and communication programming and support for individuals and groups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess the assistive technology needs of a student with disabilities when an assistive technology referral is received.
- Consult with the families and service providers of a student with a disability when the student is referred for an assistive technology assessment.
- Coordinate the assessment with other personnel when needed.
- Provide assistive technology reports to families and service providers following an assistive technology assessment and/or consultation.
- Recommend and train teachers on assistive technology.
- Obtain necessary assistive technology materials (purchase/lease/loan).
- Return assistive technology materials obtained through a lease or loan system.
- Program and design assistive technology devices.
- Maintain a “library” of assistive technology materials and coordinate the parish loan system.
- Serve as contact person for occupational and physical therapy materials requests.
- Provide training and technical assistance to personnel involved in assistive technology issues.
- Maintain, repair, or replace assistive technology devices as needed.
- Serve as a contact person for assistive technology concerns and needs.
- Monitor and track the progress of the assistive technology program for a student with a disability/disabilities.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Sedentary: Exerts up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently; involves sitting most of the time.
Terms of Employment: 10 month
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel (Bulletin 130).
