Job Goal:
To apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. Role requires mathematical computations and the verification of mathematical accuracy and completeness. Work is performed in any type of accounting activity (e.g., accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, payroll, procurement, state and federal grants, child nutrition, etc.). Some duties may not be applicable depending on the assigned department.
Qualifications (minimum education, licensure, skills, and/or experience):
- Bachelor’s degree in business from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 24 semester hours in accounting.
- Two years of accounting experience.
- Must pass a criminal background investigation and drug screen.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries to the general ledger and provide various financial reports as requested.
- Gather data for budget preparation. Compile, research, and reconciles financial information on assets, liabilities, fund balance, revenues and expenditures.
- Check fiscal document for completeness, accuracy and procedural correctness and examine and check travel expense vouchers, invoices, payroll time sheets, etc. for accuracy and correctness.
- Receive payments from designated sources, prepare and issue receipts for payments received.
- Prepare checks and disburse funds to designated parties and audits and prepare vouchers for payment.
- Classify by determining the accounts affected and the appropriate accounting entries to be made; enter or code details of items to be paid.
- Calculate and/or verify employee wages and salaries and prepare withholding and similar tax reports and other standard payroll related reports such as retirement, credit union deductions, etc.
- Enter payroll work information necessary to process the payment of employers.
- Balance accounts payable and authorize data processing to write checks.
- Apply office guidelines, instructions, and precedents to the types of transactions encountered.
- Work may involve other clerical-accounting assignments.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
- Possesses physical skills and stamina to perform job responsibilities.
- Work requires occasional standing, long periods of sitting and frequent periods of walking.
- Must, on occasion, lift and carry file boxes, books, manuals, files, records, etc.
- Must be able to bend and stoop in performing job duties.
- Must tolerate horizontal, overhead, and low-level reaching in performing work such as retrieving manuals, picking up objects, filing, typing, shredding, and computer runs
Terms of Employment: 12 month (Salary in accordance with current salary schedule)
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel (Bulletin 130).
